Without Borders partnered with Iluka Resources to conduct a community based pilot project that included 13 schools in the Puttalam district, Wanatawilluwa divisional secretariat. Under this project we recruited 38 volunteer teachers after an initial field visit to understand the teaching requirements in schools. The volunteer teachers were allotted schools as per the need after a 5 day teacher training program. 

 

Post placement of the teacher we further handled the administrative tasks related to the postings, such as payment of salary, teacher training, monitoring and evaluation of the teaching, grievance handling, and supervising the overall project.

 

While placing the volunteer teachers we also conducted separate sessions in the same community as follows;

• Ideator (leadership training) sessions for school-going children

​

• Good touch bad touch workshop for primary school children to get a deeper understanding of their body and anatomy

​

• Sessions for parents on child-parent bonding, listening and being attentive to children, family financial management and other related topics
