Ideator is a hackathon style accelerator implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education in Sri Lanka. The program is focused on equipping young people aged 14-19 with creative skills in leadership and advocacy to develop a Design Thinking mindset in becoming socially conscious young change-makers.
The pilot phase is a part of a broader initiative that is mapping ways of integrating the content of the program into the local curricula to be rolled out across every school in Sri Lanka.
Screening
Reaching out to school principals and teachers to bring together cohorts of 60 students coming from the same community but a mix of schools and demographic makeup.
Accelerator
The cohort comes together for a three day accelerator where they're taken through a Design Thinking process and a series of team-building, empathy mapping and confidence building sessions.
Hackathon
On Day 3 the cohort is split according to their interests and tasked with a community mapping activity to locate a pressing community issue and to design an intervention.
Connecting
The teams then pitch their ideas to a panel consisting of local government officials, donors and potential mentors. The most viable interventions are then matched with local support, mentorship and funding.
